You may have seen or heard that Live It Learn It launched the Bridge the Gap Fund, an initiative designed to help PreK-12 educators bring enriching learning opportunities to their students. By providing financial assistance and expert logistical support, this fund removes the barriers that often prevent these experiences from becoming a reality.
But it’s not just about field trips. We’re also supporting essential project-based learning opportunities that many schools typically rely on PTO/PTA fundraising for—things like classroom libraries, sound systems for school events, and even holiday gifts for students. These are the kinds of projects that ensure students in DC public and charter schools have what they need to learn, thrive, and feel valued—without teachers being left to navigate the process alone.
In just 2.5 months since its launch, $225,000 has been requested out of the $250,000 available—showing the immense need for this kind of support in these schools.
Here are just a few examples of the amazing projects already funded through the Bridge the Gap Fund:
- Drew Elementary (3rd grade): These students explored both the history and natural beauty of the Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens, capturing photos of wildlife and unique plants (photo below).
- Van Ness Elementary (2nd grade): Students will attend a performance of The Nutcracker at the Washington Ballet, introducing them to the magic of classical dance and storytelling.
- Seaton Elementary (Pre-K4): Young learners will experience the Seasons of Light show at the Discovery Theater, discovering the history and traditions behind winter holidays from around the world.
- Friendship Southeast Academy (7th grade): A field trip to the National Great Blacks In Wax Museum in Baltimore, MD, will allow students to engage with key moments and figures in African American history, deepening their classroom studies through powerful, real-life depictions.
At Live It Learn It, we know that teachers have incredible ideas, but making those ideas happen can be overwhelming. That’s why the Bridge the Gap Fund goes beyond financial assistance. Our team is here to help educators every step of the way. We are working with teachers to develop project ideas, create curriculum connections, book transportation, purchase various materials, and more. It's our goal to make their dreams become a reality!
From sparking curiosity to building connections between lessons and the real world, these projects are changing how students learn and grow. This project is being run in partnership with EmpowerED and the DC Council -- and we are so thankful for their support. Spreading Cheer with the LILI Ditty
|
|
Buddy the Elf said: “The best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear!” At Live It Learn It, we know that nothing spreads year-round cheer while sparking joy and curiosity quite like our LILI ditty.
“Live It Learn It, roll call 1, 2, 3.
We live it. We learn it…”
This simple tune is more than just a song—it’s a celebration of discovery and the start of unforgettable adventures for DC students. Each verse echoes with excitement as students step into transformative field experiences that bring learning to life.
Help us spread even more cheer this holiday season with a donation to LILI. Your support ensures that hundreds of students can continue to explore, learn, and grow.
P.S. Want to hear the LILI ditty? Visit our donation page to listen to one of our incredible third-grade classes singing loud for all to hear!
