SARAH CAPPO
(She/Her)
Bridge the Gap Program Coordinator
Sarah Cappo grew up in the Oklahoma City area and fell in love with museums at 6 years old. After graduating from William Jewell College with degrees in Nonprofit Leadership and Art, Sarah worked in higher education in Kansas City before moving to Washington, DC. She earned an M.A. in Museum Studies, focusing on museum management and leadership, from the George Washington University and has worked in museum education in DC for the last 10 years. Previously, Sarah managed Teen Programming at the National Building Museum and the Smithsonian’s Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden before switching gears to join Live It Learn It.
Her educational practice centers on the idea that “museums are for everyone,” designing learning environments that center young people, empowering them to build spaces where they feel valued and comfortable, co-create their own educational experiences, know that their voices have power, and that they have the ability to enact change within their own communities. Sarah lives in Ward 6, and when she’s not visiting a museum, you can find her doing yoga, walking in her neighborhood, cooking Italian recipes with too much (exactly enough) garlic and lemon, making art, playing the piano, or spending time with her friends and their cats.
