Making a way
Major themes or topics: Civil Rights, activist, equality, social justice, advocacy, leadership, unity, diversity, racial barriers, discrimination, grassroots organization, community.
Key content: Students will focus on how African Americans made opportunities for themselves when faced with discrimination by exploring the exhibits Making a Way Out of No Way and Game Changers. Then we will imagine how to create opportunities for Black Americans in the future in the exhibit Afrofuturism.
Focus questions: How can we create a better future despite adversity? How did Black Americans thrive during the civil rights movement? What is Afrofuturism? We have seen what has been done and what is being done. What comes next?
